In the God Era, Surtur was an uneasy ally of the Quara'tun Covenant, assisting them in their war when necessary. During his respite, he would engage in mischievous acts or undertake civilizational development. The volcano Bora Korek was a product of the latter endeavor, intended as a hospitable living space for his fire giants. Like others, he sought to ensure that his people would be firmly established, regardless of the outcome of the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE).
Built in 236 GE, Bora Korek was nourished by the Velkyn Spigot; a lava tube linked to the Great Vein of Surtur. Upon learning of Surtur's activities, the Covenant dispatched Kossuth to halt Surtur's work. Operating out of Irkvild, Kossuth and his minions set out to diminish the area's pressure. By boring out dead-end canals and a network of inconsequential rivulets, the region cooled. Consequently, Bora Korek had become a dormant volcano by 9294 GE.
