Map Luran Hills

The Luran Hills stretch from Baurwen to the eerie waters of Lake Orukhan. Rich in iron, gold, and other valuable minerals, the Luran Hills are frequently swept by gusting winds. They are battered by the powerful winds blowing south from the Northern Hordelands, as well as the cross-winds of the Bog Sea and the Sea of Galathien. During the summer, the convergence of these winds often gives rise to tornadoes and fierce storms in the southern reaches of the hills.

The lower Lurans were once the domain of Tragaran pioneers during the First and Second Epochs. This region became deeply religious, with certain holy orders adopting fervent ideals in the name of the Church of Athena. Some attribute the hazardous and frequently violent borderlands of the Farinteen Empire and the untamed north as the impetus for the crusaders, zealots, and evangelists who emerged from the Lurans. One of the most distinguished families of this area was the Gudyazas clan.

In the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), the Luran people mounted a fierce resistance against the overwhelming undead hordes. Rather than face defeat in open combat, they retreated northward beyond the Black Tide into the Northern Hordelands. For the duration of the war and in the aftermath, they pursued a strategy of guerrilla warfare, harassing the invaders' supply chains and vulnerable outposts.

The Lurans preserve the remains and ruins of three momentous wars - the Black Tide War, the Athena Crusade, and the Buruthran War (1824 - 1829). The region is dotted with scores of towers, keeps, and castles, most of which lie vacant, only to be occupied and garrisoned during times of great conflict.
