The Severed Neck Battle marked the first major engagement of the Athenian Crusade ( 1539 - 1551 ) . In the Year 1539, the forces of good launched an offensive against the Black Tide of Thasmudyan. In a strategic military maneuver, General Galtrag of the Golden Elite positioned the Milithian Grand Army across the communication lines of the Black Tide, compelling them to abandon Vraga Moltus and move north to engage the forces of good. Before departing, the evil Black Tide set Vraga Moltus ablaze.
The Golden Elite then moved the Milithian Grand Army against each enemy army that came to reinforce the others. The larger army to the north was the first to be engaged in battle. The gnomes of Voruner advanced behind the supporting army of evil. A mixed army of good from Hanthaerion flanked the evil host from the east. The west was blocked by Tara-Har ; it would witness numerous creatures plunging to their deaths to escape the wrath of the Shields of Iraktharbhun. Finally, "like a great hammer", the Milithian Grand Army delivered the decisive blow to the minions of Thasmudyan. The Tharn-Mol, the elite of the Black Tide of Thasmudyan, were surrounded and annihilated.
During this pivotal battle, the Order of Solars, an elite knightly order commanded by Galtrag, unleashed a series of relentless cavalry charges against the enemy formations. Their maneuvers, later immortalized as the Solar Charges , proved instrumental in rescuing numerous units that had become isolated from reinforcements. As the conflict drew to a close, the Order continued to harass the retreating foe, leaving a trail of fallen adversaries stretching for miles north of Tara-Har.
The Kambar-Ghul army marched southward from the ruins of Holy Sanctum to join the Tharn-Mol. Regrettably, they arrived too late, and were repelled by the valiant Order of Solars and the elven forces of Voldanwen. The lances and blades of the Order, combined with the elven arrows of Voldanwen, swiftly decimated the retreating ranks of the Kambar-Ghul.
This pivotal engagement heralded the downfall of the Black Tide of Thasmudyan.
