In the final days of the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), the Farinteen Alliance was broken. Their defeated armies retreated eastward into the Slafknara Forest and surrounding highlands. The remnants of the Farinteen Dynasty became known as the Slafknara Rangers, continuing to combat the Black Tide through guerrilla tactics. In 1506, they forged an alliance with the Voldanwen, a wood elf expeditionary force that had escaped the fate of their nation, the Galadriël Kingdom, with its people trapped within Viressur. Their shared goal was to restore the Galadriël Kingdom, vanquish the Black Tide, and bring unity to the peoples they protected.
Generally, the wood elves of the Sylvan Kingdoms did not favor Fartineen's Tragarans. When Katrana devastated Lake Nellaegaer, they determined it was time to unite their forces, coordinate their endeavors, and put an end to the lunacy of the Black Tide.
In the year 1531, the Shields seized control of the Targad city known as Iglutt. This longstanding settlement became the strategic center for those aiming to liberate the Lands of Purity from the grasp of the Black Tide.
In the year 1533, the Shields seized control of the Targad municipality of Milithian.
In 1539, the Shields of Iraktharbhun joined the Holy Quinary, waging war against the Black Tide's undead legions. Following the Athenian Crusade (1539 - 1551), the Voldanwen returned home to Galadriël. The Slafknara Rangers, comprised primarily of Tragarans, subsequently formed the core of Malacost's military.
