Founded when the Sahânzar was the seabed of the Nermanis, this hold was constructed by the giants of the long-defunct Aslauthroa Empire, which existed from 9 HE to 1891 HE. Named Tirkvild, it was Aslauthroa's sole maritime port. Situated in an area prone to thunderstorms, Tirkvild became the most prestigious assignment for Storm Dukes and clergy of the Church of Talos.

Resettled in 1309 by the Khazarkar Empire, Tirkvild underwent a gradual process of reconstruction. It was subsequently renamed Barun-Mitân, honoring the merchant family that financed the establishment of the first library in Akann'ndâb. Today, the city boasts an abundance of universities, monasteries, scientific and cultural centers, cementing its reputation as the locale with the highest concentration of intellectuals and educational institutions on the continent of Bal-Kriav. The Neetch Institute stands as the most renowned learning center within the city.

Barun-Mitân features an array of vibrant entertainment venues, including lively music halls, raucous taverns, and open spaces dedicated to artistic pursuits such as painting and sculpting. The city also hosts areas for wrestling, boxing, and pit fighting. Fashion in Barun-Mitân is ever-evolving, with men's hairstyles shifting from topknots to braids from one month to the next. Similarly, women's attire can fluctuate between long and short skirts in a matter of weeks.

In addition to Khazarkars, the city is home to Kriavfahliil and Nermaneans. The Neetch Institute attracts a variety of distinguished individuals, including several beholders and illithids. The majority of the city's halfling population are of Nermanean ancestry, and similar to their forefathers who conducted trade across Cinazan, they control a significant portion of the commercial activity moving from the city to other regions of the empire.
