During the Horgon Era, the Titan Empire of Glangveif constructed an immense citadel at the head of the Anzar glacier. The abundant gold deposits beneath this glacier rendered Glangveif one of the wealthiest empires of that epoch. Seeking to maintain a closer watch over the gold flowing from Anzar 's mines, in 620 HE, Glangveif relocated its capital to Haugald.

The Melting of Glangveif

In the Ice Pillar War, fierce combat unfolded north of the city.

  • The Siege Catalyst: Seeking to isolate the city, King Amdar of Hofthorm deployed an Ember of Tosgerd —an "enchanted" byproduct of Surtur's legendary forge at Svaer Hodgrolf.
  • Geological Engineering: In terms of Lost Age tech, the Ember acted as a long-term thermal emission device. Catapulted into the southern glacier, it initiated a sustained, high-energy thaw.
  • The Formation of Lake Kedmaer: This was not a natural disaster, but a forced environmental overwrite. The resulting meltwater created Lake Kedmaer, which flooded the northern tunnels and mines, effectively severing Haugald from its economic lifeline.

In the First Epoch, the ruins of Haugald were rebuilt by frost giants serving under Jarl Othnord. In 1285, this petty king was slain by forces of the Orchish Empire. After changing hands, Haugald was modified, with some areas made more comfortable for those of less than giant stature. The Orchish Empire 's navy, the Fothakith, added a port for lake commerce and naval training. This was part of the High Command 's long-term vision of securing a port on the Core Sea. From Haugald, the Fothakith trained sailors in preparation for the day when they would be needed to defend the coasts against those with no desire to see the Orchish Empire near them (c.f. Core Offensive ).

The Githirmil are guided by long-term strategists, the Court of One Hundred Eyes, the Ageless Emperor. At Haugald, they maintain a covert navy, undergoing preparation for a momentous mission from Virgath to the Core Sea.
