Lamprophyre was constructed in the Underdark region of Bulâd-Gûla. It was built over a hundred miles away from the nearest Rilirthad holding. The high risk of becoming cut off in any potential conflict was a necessary gamble, for within the Lamp'ald cavern complex, there were recurring Web Ruptures. Lamprophyre was built to study these anomalies. The culmination of their work was the Gypsum Rift, resulting in a growing geyser of sand blasting upwards to the surface. The ever-expanding diameter of this rift enveloped the citadel's polychrome marble streets and sandstone buildings, pushing it all to the surface. Constructed by earth elementals to withstand even the most violent earthquakes, Lamprophyre remained intact as it settled on the surface. For centuries after, the gypsum sand pouring out of this rift flowed through the city like a river, then over the cliffs and into the Pearl Sea, giving rise to the Gypsum Dunes.

Lamprophyre was apprehended during the Ivory Dao War. Two years subsequent to the cessation of hostilities, Ivory Asylum formally designated it as the capital of the Ethâr state.

The architecture of the Dao builders remains prominently visible throughout the city. The largest Dao structure, the Victory Base, is an impressive 1400-foot diameter and 100-foot high cylinder. The granite of the Victory Base is embellished with intricate sandstone carvings depicting Dao and earth elementals that appear to support the structure. Atop this Dao-crafted foundation stands the Palace of Peg. The elderaunts constructed this palace in their signature style, featuring towers and buildings with steep, sail-like slopes, bridges and walkways designed to resemble ship riggings, and windows shaped like the portholes of a formidable ship, complete with the appearance of bristling cannons.

The city's populace is predominantly composed of dwarven descendants hailing from the region of Agibandal, amounting to over half of the total residents.
