Zaris, an agent of the Ithengee Monarchy, participated in an intricate plot to undermine the stability of the Orchish Empire. The strategy was a familiar one - infiltrate the populace and foment discord. In 1771, five years into the assignment, Zaris was apprehended, accused of being a political agitator, and sentenced to serve in a penal battalion.
June 6, 1771: The Orchish Empire, particularly her "advanced orcs", the Githirmil, adhere to a comprehensive codex of laws that would confound the common Orc people. We were instructed that the Githirmil were once ordinary orcs, but their society suggests deeper complexities. They maintain unwritten directives, akin to gospel, originating from their Ageless Emperor - unwritten to avoid agitating the master's master, his former overlord Maeraddyth...
September 8, 1771: The Emperor's inaugural directive is to abide by the laws. It constitutes one of the nightly refrains in which we must participate: "The collective wisdom of history's most venerated civilizations, their statutes, our statutes, will rise up." The sentiment perplexed the majority, but I discerned it to be a tactic of the empire's indoctrination.
4.12.1772: The frontier strongholds exhibit ominous facades, remarkably akin to the tactics employed by the orcs in our vicinity. One can only ponder whether they are experiencing a similar regression as the Sussgurd.
The ceremony was marked by an abundance of grandeur, with vibrant banners, flags, and the resonating chants of war, all subtly infused with the tenets of the Emperor's Gospel.
10.5.1774: I find it captivating that such an ephemeral people would undertake a plan that requires decades or even centuries to yield results - preventing the Githirmil from regressing and reverting to mere orcs. This appears to be the scheme of an immortal being, that of Gruumsh's underling, the seemingly eternal Lith-Crillion, or perhaps Gruumsh himself.
Zaris, from the thirteen camp diaries - "Emperor's Gospel"
After being apprehended by Orchish counterintelligence, Zaris and another individual were charged as foreign provocateurs. Zaris, an agent of the Ithengee Monarchy, was dispatched to Sagren. This volatile region served as the setting where she joined a unit of prisoners tasked with labor and military duties. As a member of Penal Battalion 321, she operated alongside her unit mates as shock troops or bait to instigate conflict.
In the penal battalion, Zaris joined a gang known as the Crimson Eyes. Over time, this gang assumed a position of authority within the unit. Upon their release for a more significant purpose, they became renowned as the adventuring group Crimson Eye.
On a perilous mission to the Abyss, Bist, a lesser member of the company, ruthlessly murdered Zaris while she was preoccupied by a horde of demons. In a fit of spite or a misguided jest, certain members of the Crimson Eye took it upon themselves to inter Zaris within the hallowed crypts of Norgtrum.
When the lich Drog'paagol learned that his protégé had been eliminated, he endeavored to locate Zaris's soul energy. Upon accomplishing this, he repurposed and resurrected Zaris as a ghost. Zaris was then charged with haunting Norgtrum. After seven years, the bindings were broken, granting Zaris unfettered freedom. Having transformed a substantial number of Crimson Eye soldiers into the undead, Zaris journeyed eastward with her undead army, ultimately joining the Toomrur Hegemony.
