In each of the Helas Vessels, there are numerous rows and decks. The hibernation chambers within operate similarly to the Temporal Stasis spell. On extended voyages, even the massive size of the ships could not accommodate the needs of 20,000 primordial soldiers eager for combat. Some claim that Beldileck created these vessels, but the nature of the hibernation chambers, with their strange gooey membranes, suggests another origin.
Ptah, a deity from the Covenant Archive on Jovar, is described as the "Primordial Troop Carriers"
Hibernation Bays are used to put Helas Vessel passengers into a state of slumber. As Ptah mentioned, it functions akin to the Temporal Stasis spell. These bays were developed during the Creation War, a conflict that Beldileck viewed as prolonged. The immense distance between a world and its moons, or even to another world, was so great and time-consuming that these Hibernation Bays were invented to solve two pressing issues. The first was providing sustenance for a passenger complement of up to 20,000. The second was to prevent the crew and passengers from harming one another. Given the nature of their soldiers, the children of Chaos, the latter was perhaps the most crucial reason. One of the earliest Helas Vessels employed in warfare, the Vuvile Helas, lacked these Hibernation Bays. Midway through the voyage, following a series of large-scale altercations, the ship fell under the control of a subordinate. Since only the commander was tethered to the ship's living engine, and he had perished, the Vuvile Helas continued on its final course, vanishing into the Void.
The Durkoth evacuation of their home world remains the most well-documented use of the Hibernation Bays. The most capable individuals were selected to board four Helas Vessels. They ventured into the Void with no predetermined course, as the Durkoth lacked the expertise to operate the ships. Nonetheless, they trusted in the genius of Beldileck's arks to ensure their survival. In 537 HE, they departed, leaving the majority of their population behind. Three centuries later, in 862 HE, the Helas Vessels arrived at Bal-Kriav. As they entered the atmosphere of this new world, the 15,000 to 20,000 occupants in each voidship emerged from hibernation and prepared for landing.
On the world of Bal-Kriav, hibernation bays have been salvaged from all the four Helas Vessels. During the Durkoth Descent (995 HE - 1355 HE), many were taken to the seabeds, with vaults and then a city built over them. They became the home of many Durkoth when they supposedly disappeared. In other areas, they have been utilized to store their occupants until a cure for a poison or disease has been found, to preserve one's mortal existence a little longer, and as prisons. In 1105, the lich Caliguworm, the False Emperor, was unmasked and captured. The League of Magicks took their prisoner to his new home in Uriall-Madiess, where he was destined to spend an eternity in one of these ancient sleep devices.
The Crillion Comet is an additional vessel equipped with hibernation chambers.
