Founded late in the Horgon Era, a Mîmêk mining company constructed it as a fortress to cover the advance of mines tapping the Tail of Golruwyrm. This gold vein was so abundant that they had been exploiting it for centuries. They mined it from the cliffs of Diiv Prok all the way down into the vast cavern of Zarag-Gûn. In this area, they encountered difficulties. Loosely claimed by the Runelderil Empire, the meager forces of the mining company were forced to retreat. Seeking the support of a larger party, the mining company requested a settlement charter from Duluk-Zirag. This promised their benefactor a share of the gold flow and tax revenue of the settlement. In return, the settlement would acquire the security forces they desperately required. Conflict between the Runelderil and the people of Sigatharkin persisted for many centuries. Prolonged periods of peace followed, yet never lasted more than a few decades. Today, evidence of this conflict remains in the form of ruined blockhouses, forts, towers, trenches, and walls, from the shattered gates of Sigatharkin to the once mighty Drow city of Ilaleztice.

In the First Epoch, the city possessed a sole major church dedicated to Tarâk. During the Onyx Enmity War (915 - 920), the urgings of Tarâk's priests precipitated the collapse of Zarag-Gûn's ceiling. The legends of the present day assert that Tarâk instructed these clergy to take this action, as it would conclude the war with the Runelderil. The downfall of Zarag-Gûn did indeed terminate the conflict, yet at a substantial cost - the roof of Zarag-Gûn composed a portion of the seabed of the Nermanis Sea. When the sea flooded downwards, it submerged Sigatharkin, Ilaleztice, and other strongholds for hundreds of miles. The survivors of Sigatharkin fled southward to Nurum-Maluk, once a hold of Sigatharkin but now a vassal state of the Kuo-toa empire of Âkhi. The populace of Nurum-Maluk proved more welcoming to the refugees than their overlords, eventually giving rise to the Kingdom of Zandûl-Khâl with Nurum-Maluk as its capital. Many of those who had previously lorded over Sigatharkin now assumed positions within this new government.

Today, Sigatharkin is a city-sized ruin of Mîmêk architecture. It serves as a haven for bandits, monsters, and others seeking a place to hide or hunt. As stipulated in the Treaty of Khelgin-Dûl, with Mulun-Dûna, the Khazarkar Empire, the Âkhi, and Zandûl-Khâl as signatories, Sigatharkin is not to be resettled.
