After coming to power in 993, the Eldritch Conclave faced public distrust and dislike. The latter stemmed from the elite families, the Minâth-Nôrî, who were averse to the idea of being governed by a wizard cabal. Following two years of unrest, the Conclave sought to shift internal turmoil to an external foe. Border disputes with the Burterinii provided a pretext for punitive action. The Conclave War commenced with the Siege of Thular-Tûr. Presaging the events to come, Thular-Tûr fell to a seemingly wrathful storm of arcane energy. The Conclave and their web weavers, awed by such immense power, would continue exploiting the Web of Magic for this siege and many others.
In 997, the Tragarans succeeded in eliminating two esteemed mages of the Eldritch Conclave. They accomplished this through specialized constructs known as void assassins. These stealthy golems infiltrated behind enemy lines and eliminated both of their targets. The golems then self-destructed, creating a temporary rift in the fabric of the multiverse - a void. Anything within a twenty-foot radius that was not firmly secured was drawn into this void and vanished forever. Following these assassinations, the Conclave enacted additional safeguards against such golem threats.
The army of the Eldritch Conclave was taken aback when the forest appeared to come alive, impeding their progress during the Battle of Woad. The unanticipated druidic magic of the Burterinii proved formidable, as many troops were killed by strangulation from vines, poison thorns, and falling branches. The druids' fierce aggression ultimately resulted in the loss of all their top practitioners. Their sacrifice, however, enabled Ing-Serold to strengthen its defenses and grant more time for the evacuation of the city's non-combatants and refugees.
Early in 998, the Eldritch Conclave initiated the siege of Ing-Serold. This siege endured for a year. The initial assault on the city occurred at night, conducted by a dozen mages empowered by fly spells and improved invisibility. Each mage hurled a fireball into the city, followed by a barrage of catapult missiles and arrows. However, these attacks had little impact on the fortified city. Ing-Serold's sixty-foot-thick walls were lined with lead and magically reinforced, rendering it well-equipped for a magical war. Despite twenty major assaults, Ing-Serold did not fall until the end of the Conclave War.
In the Siege of Ing-Serold, refugees and non-combatants were transported across the channel to the settlement of Sillutho. From there, they were escorted northward to the emerging communities situated along the eastern shores of Tha'lith.
