The War of the Fragments was waged over six large Entropy Fragments. Several groups simultaneously discovered the location of these remnants of the Womb of Entropy. Aware of their immense power and potential danger, both Altocumuli and Ancalimë dispatched forces to recover them. The confrontation occurred in the forests of Thangolos, which were designated as neutral territory where anyone could hunt but no one could claim. Conflict erupted as numerous search parties were sent into the forest, seeking an ancient shrine. After its location was uncovered, the battles intensified as each side strived to seize control of the hidden research center. Following the war, they would learn that the primordial Asoun was the one who had dispersed the magic that had kept this place concealed and forgotten since the Lith-Crillion Era. It was his agents who had spread the rumor of entropy fragments hidden in Thangolos.
The revival of worship to Krak-Oth occurred during the quest to locate these entropy fragments. In the deeper reaches of Thangolos, Altocumuli armies engaged in battle with those of Ancalimë. In the initial two years of conflict, the larger elven armies gained the upper hand. It is said that the people of Altocumuli had lost faith in their deities, and they were being punished. Meanwhile, those who prayed to the previously unknown god named Krak-Oth appeared to fare better in their battles. General Yrsuthroa, a convert to Krak-Oth and a formidable priestess, began disseminating the word of Krak-Oth to others. For the remainder of the war, a potent campaign of disinformation occurred, with many individuals adopting the worship of Krak-Oth.
In the year 1504, Asoun's research center Zyvie Setie was seized by Altocumuli forces. Acting on the directives of a mechanical being crafted by Asoun, a machine spider with a sentient brain, the giants commenced work on an Entropy Arch, utilizing the six entropy fragments.
In 1505, fatigued from conflict, all parties negotiated a temporary cessation of hostilities.
In 1507, a military alliance was forged between Zeluk and Altocumuli. The Altocumuli bolstered their forces with a new contingent of troops. Some of these were chaos-trained soldiers - possessing the characteristics of frenzied barbarians, as well as aberrations and chaos abominations from the furthest reaches of Chaos. Several hundred slaadi also took their place in the battle lines. The slaadi and chaos aberrations arrived via the recently constructed Entropy Arch.
Cúthalion, perceiving their elven brethren in jeopardy, consented to a strategic alliance. Cúthalion assailed Zeluk's eastern flank at Houphoz. This compelled the withdrawal of the Zeluk from the Ancalimë's battle lines, and their return to their domain to confront Cúthalion. Five more years of conflict ensued, resulting in the loss of tens of thousands. In 1512, with neither side gaining a decisive advantage, a peace accord was ratified by all parties.
The entropy arch of Altocumuli did not have a significant impact on the war. This was because recruiting minions from the Chaos realm requires considerable effort, given its immense vastness. Furthermore, those who do emerge are not obligated to obey the opener, as they possess free will. Ultimately, the open rift proved too hazardous to maintain, leading to its sealing within one of Zyvie Setie's vaults. Currently, this location is guarded by members of the Portal Sentinels.
