A military base under Surtur in the Creation War, Brogtrun joined old enemies in the Demon Spawn War, battling the demon incursions taking place on the surface and underneath. After the Demon Spawn War, Brogtrun became an independent city-state of fire giants, salamanders and others comfortable with living areas built overlooking a lava lake or among lava canals and area of extreme heat, smoke, and noxious gases.

By the Horgon Era, the city had expanded outward, giving rise to living areas for those less heat tolerant.

In the Second Epoch, being close to the surface city of Collossapolos, Brogtrun was given the choice of joining the expansive Orchish Empire or suffer ruin. As their intelligence services proved, joining as a vassal city-state meant a garrison that they no longer had to pay for, and everything else largely unchanged.
