NARATYR

Naratyr is the capital city of the formidable demon lord Orcus. The city is situated within the bleak and desolate realm known as Thanatos.

Naratyr is an ancient city, dating back even before the rise of Orcus. During the Dawn Era, it served as the hold of a primordial named Gabin Kûn. This twisted, depraved, and seemingly foolish son of Piranoth was too much for his father and brothers to manage, so they sent him far away to one of the remote worlds of Piranoth's Steps. On Thanatos, he was tasked with building a great forge for the "coming conflict," which was Piranoth's premonition of the impending Creation War between the primordials and the Creationists. Their intent was to keep him and other like-minded individuals busy and out of the affairs of Piranoth and the rival primordials who might not be as forgiving.

The formidable fortress of Naratyr rose up around the numerous forges and supporting structures that Gabin Kûn and his minions hastily constructed. These minions, the undoubtedly disturbed and cast-away stock of primordial creation, built such a chaotic assortment of structures and forges that structural collapses were commonplace. Scarcely a month passed without something succumbing to ruin. After such collapses, these ruins became the lairs of the crazed or those who preyed on the workers at Naratyr. At times, the debris was scavenged for materials to be used in another construction project, with the junk and useless refuse cast off into the great rift below Naratyr. Today, a portion of this rift is strewn with a jumbled debris field stretching some five miles in length and the full breadth of the rift. When the winds blow, as they do more often than not, through the Hanatrarg rift, the sounds of creaking timbers become even more harrowing as they echo through the channels of the latticework of junk. This haunting howl is often accompanied by the cries of abyssal hounds, rendering the entire affair a nerve-wracking experience for both mortal and immortal denizens of Naratyr.

In the Demon Spawn War, the fortress expanded into a thriving city due to the heightened military activity fueling Orcus's invasion of the Aerie of Dragons.
