The culmination of the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE) witnessed the dissolution of the Covenant armies. One of these Covenant soldiers was a general named Lolth. She relinquished her "angelic" status, becoming a mortal. Lolth aspired to rule her people, the Drow, while cultivating a following and establishing a Church.
The founder of this initial drow empire, Lolth reigned for four centuries. As Empress Lolth Thiliorúth, she commenced the Drow tradition of maintaining an empire's name unaltered until it has succumbed to ruin. By the time she departed for her higher calling, a burgeoning empire of 30,000 former soldiers, her "Ebon Legions," had been transformed into a civilian populace ten times that magnitude.
When Lolth rose ascended on the 9th of Brighstar in the year 401 of the Late Era, departing the earthly domain of mortals, Thiliorúth was abandoned without a leader. There was no established line of succession, and it is claimed their previous commander left behind merely a solitary missive:
May the strongest win.
Lolth
Jockeying for dominance, a civil war erupted. Some factions were driven out, others completely decimated. Known as the First Splintering of Thiliorúth, in 411 LE, nearly a thousand Drow abandoned their home world of Kriav for another realm. After traversing a feywild fuse, they arrived on the world of Bal-Kriav and resettled the Covenant ruin of Tyelmantar.
