The Shadow Sect was one of the six factions that composed Bralda-Balc. Prior to the fracturing of Bralda-Balc, they carried out assassinations and covert operations on behalf of the guild. In 1029, they seceded from Bralda-Balc and became known as the Shadow Sect. Akin to the other factions of their parent organization, they vied for influence and authority within the Kal-Oni empire.

During the final days of Kal-Oni, the Shadow Sect exerted complete dominance over the empire. When faced with threats from other influential groups within the empire, they eliminated entire families and devastated the economic interests of their adversaries. To outsiders, including the empire's other factions, the Shadow Sect appeared as utterly ruthless egomaniacs, seemingly intent on bringing about the downfall of the Kal-Oni empire. Ultimately, in 1266, internal turmoil and the Shadow Sect's puppet government led to the collapse of this empire.

The Shadow Sect no longer concerns itself with manipulating empires. Instead, they operate as assassins and spies, offering their services to any employer. They are distinguishable by the tattoos covering most of their shaved bodies and their preference for minimal clothing. However, sightings of the Shadow Sect are exceedingly rare, as their targets seldom survive to recount the encounter.

Agents of the Shadow Sect operate across numerous realms, consistently seeking unscrupulous individuals or organizations to contract their services. As noted, Shadow Sect assassins meticulously shave their bodies, removing all traces of hair. They typically dye their skin to blend seamlessly with their surrounding environment and carry a limited arsenal of one or two weapons on their missions. All bear intricate, multicolored tattoos upon their bodies, denoting their accomplished feats, such as successful assassinations or the attainment of greater skills. These tattoos are designed in intricate patterns to disrupt the outline and appearance of the individual, bestowing them with a shadowy, elusive presence.

In the year 1665, Kreb the Scribe, an agent of the Shadow Sect, infiltrated the XI Institute and pilfered the plans for constructing specific energy weapons. This sensitive information was subsequently peddled to his employer in Malacost. Several years thereafter, these energy weapons began to be utilized by some of the elite military divisions of Malacost.
