The Shift Tome is a compendium of conjuration and summoning spells. It encompasses incantations spanning the ages, from the distant Dawn Era to the modern day. Work on the tome commenced under the auspices of Piranoth. During the tumultuous Abyssal Release, the tome was looted by forces led by Baphomet. As Baphomet ascended to the rank of demon lord, he augmented the book, warping some of the writings so that the inherent magic emerged in a corrupted form.
In the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE), Baphomet leveraged the power of the Shift Tome to rapidly deploy his armies across expansive territories.
The book ultimately found its way to Bal-Kriav during the Horgon Era. This transpired after Gradorian operatives, acting on intelligence obtained from Dispater, infiltrated Baphomet's labyrinthine stronghold of Lyktion, absconding with the Shift Tome and numerous other valuables.
The Shift Tome holds exceedingly potent spells that can pose peril to its user(s). During the Horgon Era, Gradorian wizards of Lod Stohl employed this tome in an attempt to summon a diabolical army from Dis. Deceived by Dispater, they did not summon an army, but rather summoned Lod Stohl itself, "shifting" the entire city from its location on the world of Bal-Kriav to the distant realm of Dis. This abrupt disappearance left a great smoking rift known as Ausul Raf.
