Near the center of the Northern Hordelands lies a perpetual maelstrom enveloping an expansive area. Spanning approximately fifty miles in diameter, it churns like the eye of a hurricane. Perpetually raining, sometimes with thunderous displays, the runoff has given rise to the wetlands of Irtharmorn. On the northern periphery of the storm are the Storm Cavities, where the rainfall descends into crevices and fissures, ultimately forming the headwaters of the dark river known as Vuzlyn.
The Primordial Storm arose during the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) . In an epic battle, the Covenant heroes Phalgas, Athena, and Danzar-Khâl vanquished the Nine-Tongued Worm. Knowing its demise was imminent, the beast had devised a spell to be triggered upon its death. Perishing on 3 Bliss 158 GE, the spell's activation resulted in the implosion of the monster's infamous gut-rift, which sliced through the Web of Magic, creating a perpetual storm and opening a rift to a realm overrun by demons. Shortly after, the demon lord Yeenoghu emerged through the rift with his army, accompanied by his closest advisor, the disembodied thinker Ingu'lumin, a creature of Primordial origin. This alliance of brains and brawn sought to capture and control the region now known as the Northern Hordelands.
The Quara'tun Covenant successfully vanquished the demonic forces, after which Arcana collaborated with Ingu'lumin to seal the rift from the storm. Though the rift was predominantly sealed, occasionally, vestiges of Chaos manage to slip through, with air and water elementals being the common occurrences.
Ingu'lumin's level of intellect vastly surpasses my own capabilities. Undoubtedly, he will endeavor to impede my magical efforts. Yet, without his involvement, I remain incapable of closing the rift summoned by the Nine-Tongued Worm.
Arcana, to the leaders of the Quara'tun Covenant - "Ingu'lumin's Intricate Plot"
The climate and weather patterns of the Northern Hordelands, as well as segments of other territories, are profoundly influenced by the potency of the Primordial Storm. Forceful gusts of wind, which appear to emerge from nowhere, have been documented to topple a giant or pluck up a goblin and transport them for miles through fluctuating currents that ascend, descend, and appear to be propelled by an erratic power.
In the year 1407, intrepid explorers from the renowned Magis Institute ventured into the Primordial Storm, conducting meticulous studies of the vortices of raw, unbridled chaos. On one remarkable occasion, they even managed to witness a Chaos Archon emerge from what appeared to be a fleeting rift in the fabric of reality.
