In the southeastern reaches of Hells Womb, near the settlement of Zayr, lies a vast canyon known as Othrangad. This immense fissure descends nearly 10,000 feet in depth. At the lightless bottom of this chasm rests a lake called Sôvib-Sir. The western canyon walls of Othrangad constitute the lower spires of the imposing Dragon Wall.
The area exhibits an unnatural appearance, which is understandable, as it was created on 6 Brighstar 1200 when the League of Magicks attempted to open a permanent gateway to the Web of Magic. The tear in the Web of Magic ripped the ground apart, creating a deep rift and, in the process, swallowing the Kal-Oni city Uriall-Madiess. Tragically, nearly 20,000 people perished in this incident. As a result, the League of Magicks was outlawed and subsequently disbanded a year later.
The canyon bore the name of Uriall-Madiess's final administrator.
The mountains bordering this canyon possess abundant iron and copper reserves. After Kal-Oni relinquished control of the region, it became the hunting territory of malevolent humanoid tribes. The largest of these are the Goblin clans, bearing names such as Severed Head, Blood Sword, Brutal Spear, and Bloated Heart. Many goblins from these tribes trace their lineage to ancestors who served and perished as soldiers of the Black Tide when they waged war across Hells Womb and into the Lands of Purity.
One of the most perilous locations within the canyon is the Cult of Worms bastion of Birungrith. This formidable stronghold is safeguarded by an army of undead entities that soar through the skies atop skeletal wyverns.
At the base of Othrangad lies a semi-Underdark lake named Sôvib-Sir. This expansive body of water possesses a broad channel that empties into the Sea of Mourning, situated twenty miles to the south.
