The realms are fortunate that the Progeny of Baltalas are few in number. During the Creation War, they numbered in the hundreds, all spawned from the primordial lord Baltalas. Those who escaped Muspelheim unleashed untold devastation with their torrents of lava and strength rivaling that of a young Atlas. A dozen of them could band together, generating heat akin to that of several volcanoes, and spew ash, smoke, and lava enough to scorch a world. For the primordials in the Creation War, the main issue with these fiery monstrosities was their dim-wittedness and poor memory. They would turn on their own side during combat, either by choice, enemy influence, or a whim to pursue a different course. This made them unreliable, useful only as a force to be unleashed in enemy territory to wreak havoc.

After the Creation War, only two of these creatures have made it to Bal-Kriav. One was ensnared during the Demon Spawn War, becoming buried under tons of rubble. Geb and Bahamut collaborated to subdue this terror, which at the time remained nameless - Geb thus christened the beast Kerath, after a deranged son of Thyrm. This gesture earned Geb the eternal friendship of Thyrm, for it constituted an affront to his most despised offspring. When Kerath became trapped in the debris, it was then chained to the stone. These Kerath Anchors rank among the marvels of Adunamar. Kerath remains shackled, interred within the volcanic Sken Drog.

In 1421, a Progeny of Baltalas emerged through the Glothreth Rift and wreaked havoc in Glothreth. It then journeyed westward into the glacial wastes of Igas. This towering, fiery humanoid, standing thrice the height of titans, required the full might of an Artaxertean army to subdue. The 9th Vaer Firod regiment was so severely depleted by this confrontation that it was disbanded and its remnants incorporated into other Artaxertean military units.
