Harknori is an ancient fire giant metropolis established by the Hofthorm Monarchy ( 145 HE - 101 ) . Following the collapse of this kingdom, Harknori transitioned into an autonomous city-state, then a contested territory, changing dominion on numerous occasions across the subsequent eras.
The soot-covered citadel perched on the slopes of Guldat has long been regarded as one of the more affluent and stable states within the Hlimi Kingdoms. The majority of this prosperity is derived from the agricultural lands of Falgar. The advancement of this farming region catalyzed a shift from a subsistence-based economy to a mercantile one. The ascent of merchant houses and corporations precipitated a decline in clannish concerns, with its bankers subsequently becoming the financial backers of wars both within the Hlimi Kingdoms and abroad.
In Harknori, gold reigns supreme; the wealth procured from war holds greater import than involvement in the region's ostensibly perpetual conflicts.

Capital of the Gangvori Syndicate, Harknori is inhabited by a varied populace, including fire giants, orcs, Khazarkars, firenewts, kobolds, and others.
By the Giant Specification Law, all the city's dwellings are constructed to accommodate the comforts of someone the size of a fire giant. Enacted in 1681, this law was instituted after the city was partially occupied by an army of small-sized demons. Before this legislation, the city was a diverse blend of many peoples and a variety of differently-sized dwellings. All structures were built to withstand both earthquakes and the eruptions of Guldat. Becoming akin to mini-bastions, small demons entrenched themselves in these areas unfavorable to giants, battling them for six months. With the assistance of Malardan wizards, the city was ultimately secured. This was a great embarrassment for the banking guilds, undermining their credibility and leaving many questioning the common saying of "safe as Harknori's banks."
