The Temple of Ascension is the hallowed site where Higher Powers are brought into existence. This sacred process, known as Ascension, is meticulously orchestrated and overseen by the group responsible for the creation of a new Higher Power.
The Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE) was much more than a conflict between the Covenant and the Abysseal Hegemony. It was a time when eminent leaders felt compelled to become something greater, drawn by a force from beyond the Mortal Systems, a path to Ascension. This pull is the essence of divine energy. The Ascendant becomes a magnet for it, a Focus. The Ascendant's followers generate this divine energy through worship, making it one of the few unique energy types.

The Temple of Ascension is guarded by a Modron army. Only those possessing divine potential, known as Ascendants, are permitted to enter the sacred edifice.
The Modron Templars, for hundreds of miles in every direction, maintain the peace and the sanctity of the Temple of Ascension. Regrettably, they sometimes fail in this endeavor. On 27 Warper 984, the villainous Set raided the temple just as Jurmalon was about to be ascended. Set's actions were driven by a desire for revenge against the Elderaunts, stemming from the great Khazarkar defeat at the Battle of Satheon (1016). Jurmalon was subsequently captured and taken to the ominous Black Chariot, and has not been seen or heard from since.
In the Horgon Era, the Saints of Maen utilized their Torc of Maen Grirngrim alongside the aid of others, ascending to become Higher Powers. Their torcs, forged by a sinister entity during the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), interfered with the process, granting them immortality, transforming them into Focuses for divine energy, yet also imbuing them with undead-like qualities - one became a desiccated figure of flesh and bones, another of dark wisps, and one a being of shadows.
