The forest hills of Armânuk stretch from the eastern shores of the Core Sea west to the Sahânzar valley. During the First Epoch, this region was home to the Nermaneans. They had numerous small settlements dotting the hills and shores when the Core Sea was much larger, then known as the Nermanis Sea. Prominent families like the Hannanâtha, and the town of Maurkac, prospered from the abundant silver mining in these hills. At the height of the Nermanis Syndicate civilization, there were 30 active silver mines.
In the midst of the Second Epoch, the dominion of the Khazarkar Empire expanded through this region all the way to the coastline. The Nermaneans, having forfeited substantial territories to raiders and witnessed their empire's collapse at the hands of giants, were eager to maintain their commercial network by aligning with others who could safeguard their borders. As such, the Nermaneans acquiesced to Khazarkar suzerainty. Subsequently, the hills were largely abandoned as a place of habitation, with the residents "persuaded" to relocate into more urbanized strongholds within the Khazarkar Empire.
Before the Cinazan Front, these hills bore the scars of active and abandoned silver mines. During the war, the Khazarkars heavily fortified the hills south of Sakarumân. As the conflict shifted eastward, the area was left strewn with hundreds of trenches and dugouts, along with human remains and the detritus of war.
