In the inaugural century of Aslauthroa's reign, Arnskar was a swampy expanse the magnitude of Orondir, another wetland situated two hundred miles westward and beyond the Damreth range.

Around 80 HE, an Aslauthroan Storm Lord was assigned to quell this sector. At the time, the primary force in Arnskar were several hundred tribes of Bullywug. Their tribal infighting prevented their population from expanding beyond the area. The Storm Lord demanded that they submit to the might of a Titan Empire. Now united against a common enemy, the Storm Lord and her army were assailed by thousands of bullywug. A year later, another Storm Lord was sent to demand tribute, but this effort also failed, leading to a protracted ten-year war. In the seventh year, Aslauthroa had grown weary of the area's resistance and decided to punish them with the wrath of Talos. The Aslauthroan king ordered the shamans of Ottaki to utilize a magical device called the Weathermaker, an artifact capable of controlling the weather. This was used to dry out the region, and the continued use of the artifact's magic forever transformed the landscape. Those on the outskirts had a few months to escape the swamp as it turned into a desert, while most of the bullywug fled west into Orondir. The interior, around 80% of the swamp's area, underwent rapid, millennia-scale changes, with the plant life and creatures becoming a source of peat that would later be discovered by Aslauthroa, leading to the founding of Snirthjar.

In the Second Epoch, the Khazarkar Empire advanced eastward across Cinazan. Encountering this arid expanse, they designated it as Nalêth. From Aslauthroan manuscripts discovered at the ruins of Snirthjar, the Khazarkars deduced that the region had been transformed into a desert through arcane means. The tomes also indicated that the extensive employment of the Weathermaker's abilities in this area had rendered its effects permanent.

Nalêth is a place characterized by a tranquil atmosphere and minimal precipitation.

The northern Winds sweep across vast expanses of Cinazan. The Feyspree, the northern wind, blows into Damreth but withholds its moisture from the western slopes of the mountains. The Iceing, the other wind, weakens and sheds much of its force and humidity upon striking the sky-island Gindinâth. This, I believe, is the reason Nalêth remains a desert. We should not place undue credence in Aslauthroan texts claiming their influence as the cause.

Amigar Urkama, Nature Protectorate of Cinazan, regional report at a Glade Summit - "Nalêth and the Two Winds"

Nalêth is situated in the southern extremes of central Cinazan. It is bordered to the west by Damreth. To the north and east of Nalêth lie the vast expanses of Âruk. The most populous settlement of the desert is Mirkathân. This locale obtains its water supply from colossal aqueducts descending from Damreth and the profound wells underneath the city.
