The effects of radioactive rocks can be substantial, though their impact may differ. Prolonged contact with such rocks can result in illness, genetic mutations, or even fatality.

In the Creation War ( 1486 DE - 8777 DE ) , an army of dwarves was captured and dispatched to Cruharr. Within this fiery Underdark domain, the dwarves were compelled to toil in the depths, mining the solid rock. Their sustained exposure over successive generations transformed them into a distinct Dwarf sub-race, known as the Azer.

In the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , a slave workforce under Zuggtmoy was compelled to toil in the mines of Siolix. Amidst the rich veins of deep rock that surrounded the mines, those who endured the arduous labor mutated, giving rise to a new Giant sub-race known as the Fomorian.

Two species that have undergone "genetic alteration" due to exposure to these deep rocks are the Derro and the Mutants of the Undercity.

Some of the profound rocks beneath Gandûm-Thûr possess attributes that augment psionics and facilitate the development of those with psionic aptitude.

Deep rock can be utilized to imbue magic items with a specialized property. A skilled enchanter, equipped with the necessary components, can grant the item an alignment focus that mirrors that of its wielder. For instance, a lawful good wielder would empower the item to effectively overcome a damage reduction of 5/evil or chaos, or 10/evil and chaos, and so forth. Should the creature be true neutral, they would benefit from the item's ability to overcome all alignment-based damage reductions. The Alignment Focus property augments the item's market price by +1.

A profoundly elemental item that has been imbued with arcane power no longer possesses transformative capabilities.
