Founded in 685, Scartaris served as the home of a sizable hobgoblin tribe known as the Scar, numbering over 2,000 members. These former citizens of Vrak-Tror, devoted followers of the warmonger deity Ares, constructed their stronghold on the northern banks of lake Girâmar. From this strategic location, the Scar hobgoblins conducted raids westward into the elven lands of Gwaeldior, as well as southward into the territories of the Kal-Oni empire during the period spanning 1016 to 1266.
In 1122, Scartaris succumbed to the Kal-Oni. The city's seizure facilitated stability and a prosperous economic renaissance as trade flourished northward to Vrak-Tror, westward to Celebriän, and eastward into the Aerie of Dragons.
By 1140, the city had become a haven for necromancers and brigands under the Tîra-Phâth. Bandits camped openly outside the city, frequently plundering the elven settlements of the Gwaeldior Forest. In 1150, seeking to halt a budding alliance between Scartaris's cult leaders and Ag Envok, the city was sacked by a Celebriän army. Fortified with Wolfin Spirits, Scartaris remained in a state of ruin until the ascent of the Paradomea Syndicate.
In 1295, the signing of a non-aggression accord between Paradomea and Celebriän ushered in the lifting of the Wolfin Spirits' curse on Scataris. Revitalized and repopulated through financial inducements and funding from Paradomea City, Scataris swiftly regained its status as a vital junction in the area.
In 1469, Scartaris was seized by the Black Tide. Seventy years later, during the Artery War (1546 - 1554), Scartaris was liberated by the Foronir Alliance.
