This nine-sided obsidian structure stands at the core of Paradomea City. Constructed in the Year 1310, it sits atop a massive slab of rock known as the Ebon Bedrock.
Slaves, laborers, engineers, and elementals erected the Palace of Nine atop a flattened hillock, beneath which lay the Ebon Bedrock. They constructed a monumental structure, 999 feet across, predominantly fashioned from obsidian. This material was transported by barge from the obsidian fields of Hlothram, down the Dargirth, and into Paradomea City. The lich arch-mages of the Council of Nine then fused the obsidian into an impenetrable, solid edifice, immune to mortal assault. Such was the arcane power harnessed in its construction that it rent the Web of Magic, leading to the formation of the rift known as Tintibulus Chute.
The majestic Palace of Nine boasts numerous impressive towers, with the nine largest towering 200 feet above the city streets. This ornate structure is adorned with beautiful terraces and serves as the offices for the Syndics, the rulers of Paradomea. The palace contains numerous chambers, some only accessible by teleportation, as well as several extra-dimensional spaces. Its halls are filled with ancient artwork, vases, and other ornaments from the fallen civilizations of Bal-Kriav, along with a vast collection from distant worlds. The main meeting chamber of the Syndics sits atop the Life Forge Dais, a 100-foot diameter raised glass that was once a functioning life forge.
In 1392, a group of bold yet foolish rogues broke into this place, stealing tomes and ancient scrolls from the chambers of Syndic Nargontou. This lich, a prominent figure in Paradomea's government, pursued the band into the palace's catacombs, where he ultimately met his demise. Tragically, six of the seven rogues who carried out the heist perished during the encounter. The sole survivor managed to escape with the riches of the lich and those of his fallen comrades. A year later, local reports claimed that one of the stolen items was a Scroll of Dawn, which detailed the story of the Ebon Bedrock beneath the Palace of Nine, once a fragment of Mechanus sundered by a primordial entity known as the Master of Tides. Today, the six rogues who perished in the catacombs now roam the halls as undead wights, charged with the task of deterring any would-be intruders.
The palace exhibits a symmetrical, organized, and meticulously constructed design. Stemming from the influence of its Ebon Bedrock foundation, this architectural precision transforms the palace into a Focus for Negative Entropy.
