Built during the Dawn Era, Aša Abrai was a coastal fortress of the Nawirrûs Covenant. They constructed this port citadel on the southern shore of what was then termed the Nôchulûn bay. Similar to the other Covenant strongholds in the region, Aša Abrai functioned as a bulwark against the Primordial forces emanating from the Radullu Rift.
Following the Creation War, the Demon Spawn War ensued. The Covenant war strategists deemed sector Chen'gom unworthy of defending, a decision stemming from the terrain issues caused by the Radullu Creep. Covenant forces concentrated their efforts elsewhere, leaving military sector Chen'gom and Aša Abrai to be contested by rival demon factions. Mordegrine, a half-troll demon general, emerged victorious from this infighting. Rumor suggests the conflict originated from a dispute over who would enjoy Aša Abrai's grand sea wall and the stunning vistas of the sea and highlands to the northeast.
The demons that captured Aša Abrai were serving under the demon lord Sess'innek. Mordegrine, a brilliant biologist bearing the title of general, set to work enhancing the trolls under her command. She engineered a new troll sub-race, the Scrag; a variant designed to spend more time underwater, with the most advanced specimens capable of breathing in both saltwater and freshwater environments.
Long after the demons were defeated and driven out of Bal-Kriav, the population of scrag had expanded tremendously, proliferating along the coastlines of Brucrumus and into the depths of the oceans and distant landmasses. Hundreds continued to dwell in Aša Abrai, a location now encircled by wetlands, with its streets submerged in mud and significant portions submerged beneath the water.
In the Horgon Era, Aša Abrai was home to Graagvrii, trolls, and scrags. They resisted the forceful overtures of Rioch Tetrax. This empire builder of alien origin was then still a Saint of Maen. He believed that due to superior design, his people the Durkoth were the rightful leaders, and that something as base as mud swimmers were only meant to serve. Fortunately for those at Aša Abrai, the Durkoth Descent (995 HE - 1355 HE) resolved this issue.
In recent times, Aša Abrai has disregarded the overtures of Ningizzida and its desire to bring the entirety of the Troll Bogs under its sway, and has rebuffed emissaries from the Divine Empire. It is only the aquatic-inclined populace of Nordern with whom they feel a certain affinity, trading with them on select occasions throughout the year and moderating their assaults on their commercial activities.
