Map Felbarum Wasteland

Felbarum is a rugged volcanic wasteland traversing three distinct regions. Sloping downward from the north, it is a landscape fractured by canyons, ravines, and towering cliffs. Though once a highly geothermal zone, the area is now exceedingly rugged, arid, and covered in a thick layer of dust. Much of the water found throughout this desolate realm is tainted by minerals and chemicals, rendering it sickening to outsiders.

In the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), this region was ravaged and scorched by the emergence of four volcanoes. Machines of Surtur, their ascent triggered earthquakes and vast lava flows. Named Felbarum after one of Surtur's finest generals, the area was intended to serve as a base for the primordial's fiery legions.

When the war was concluded, Surtur's Felbarum Army proceeded to participate in the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE). Following the demonic conflict, the army disbanded, its soldiers becoming the local inhabitants - fire giants, red dragons, ash crawlers, fire mephits, smoke mephits, firenewts, and a plethora of other fiery entities.

In more contemporary times, the locale has become a habitat for hydras. The frequent eruptions of Anaz, a colossal petrified neck and head of some primeval behemoth, are blamed for this occurrence. Subsequent expeditions, along with accounts from the region's fire giant shamans - esteemed ancients endowed with immortality - purport the petrified object to be a fragment of the vanquished primordial Bryakus; and that when it hemorrhages, a hydra is engendered.

In one of the many battles of the Creation War, Ares engaged Bryakus in combat on the slopes of Anaz and throughout the expanse of Felbarum. In a protracted skirmish spanning several days, Ares brandished his legendary shield and launched it at his adversary, cleaving off one of the hydra's heads. Embedded in the severed head, Bryakus's blood dissolved the shield, leaving in its wake thousands of arjale shards.
