Mularûn is situated on the island of Urêthîn. This city was established during the Horgon Era by the Abâthigûr. One of the scarce surviving structures from the original builders is a massive prison called Barâb-Tarban. This facility housed the empire's criminals and other life forms under study. Of the inmates, it is said many were incarcerated without charge, merely because someone disliked them. The prison also served as a source of "lab rats" - subjects used in magical and anatomical experiments.

The Abâthigûr Empire crumbled in 1011 HE. Mularûn and other locations across the Necrocrypt archipelago descended into ruin, some haunted by the anguished spirits of those who endured horrific anguish and torment at Barâb-Tarban.

When the Durkoth departed for the deeps, the Hydrocur plundered Barâb-Tarban. They seized documents, lab notes, and other valuable items. Three centuries later, the Hydrocur would leverage discoveries from Mularûn's prison laboratory in the development of the Elderaunt race.

excerpt from the Aquan Codex

Even today, mortal mariners maintain a commendable distance from the island. Under the radiant glow of full moons, the sky above the city teems with phantasms. Occasionally, these ethereal beings emit spine-chilling wails, with fatal consequences for certain creatures.

With the conclusion of the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), this ancient ruin was meticulously restored. Dax Jagg, a member of the Dead Council, initiated the reconstruction of the site as a stronghold for the Black Tide of Thasmudyan. Today, Mularûn stands as the largest port city of the Black Tide. The city's harbor is situated on the eastern coasts of Urêthîn. The currents traversing the Gizronâs channel are exceptionally powerful, necessitating the expertise of a Mularûn pilot or a highly skilled ship's captain to navigate the harbor and avoid collisions with the walls.

Some of the oldest volumes of necromantic traditions and immortal knowledge are held within the libraries of Mularûn. Many of the tomes preserved here date back to the era of the Horgon Empire (159 HE - 537 HE).

The city's most formidable line of defense are the twelve magical towers that hover above the city and along the Gizron's channel. The Twelve Eyes of Mularûn are constructed with arrow slits and apertures along their sides, as well as downward-facing cannon ports from each tower's tapered undersides. They safeguard the Gizron's channel, proving remarkably effective at assailing vessels, which in turn struggle to angle high enough to assault the towers.

Commerce with outsiders, with nearly all shunning the undead, is conducted in the harbor district. These mercantile activities are managed by Pyrmidian Ghouls who once guarded the Pyramid of Merioss. During the Black Tide War, they joined the armies of the Black Tide. When the Black Tide was driven from Brucrumus in the Artery War (1546 - 1554), they fled to Necrocrypt alongside their masters.

The city possesses a partially submerged district known as Faladrorn. Within this district, the city's erudite undead merchants engage in commerce with sahuagin and other malevolent aquatic races.
