Nautrek is a deep, frigid sea that separates the continents of Elemantum, Brucrumus, and Denerra. The treacherous waters of this sea are beset by hazards such as icebergs, cyclones, and erratic storms that unleash fierce hailstorms on some days and acid rain on others. These perilous conditions are attributed to the presence of two powerful artifacts situated in Elemantum: the Pumice Throne and the Glacial Throne. Together, these thrones exert a profound influence on the weather and climate across a vast expanse of northern Midrêth.
Nautrek, once a temperate sea, has undergone a dramatic transformation. During the Lith-Crillion Era, the Thraedli ventured to Dulpathâra, where they freed a primordial entity known as Silfergath. This ancient being, composed of dense ice and possessing an extreme cold, was one of the foes captured by Bal-Kriav and his Covenant soldiers. The foolish Silfergath, adept at breaking defensive lines and freezing vast areas, departed Dulpathâra and descended into the waters of Nautrek. There, it froze the surrounding waters for miles in all directions, and the icy block slowly sank into the abyssal depths. Thereafter, historical records primarily authored by the Thraedli indicate that the once-temperate sea began to grow progressively colder with each passing year.
In the Chaos War, a vast expanse of Nautrek became encased in ice. This occurred when the Chaos Maelstrom was locked over the sea for several months. The bitterly cold conditions resulted in a land bridge between Elemantum and Brucrumus. The frozen sea persisted for six months. During this time, a breach also formed in the Elemantum Boundary Ward, which was likewise attributed to the Chaos Maelstrom. The breach allowed a Cinderfall army to escape, whereupon they marched across the frozen sea and into Aettein. This army then joined one of the theater of conflicts known as the Cinazan Front.
