The city of Erchinor was founded by exiles from the fallen Ithendelt Empire. Guided by the illustrious House Glorfindel, they parted ways with the single-family governance practiced across the Core Sea, instead establishing a government led by family patriarchs, known as the Gilraen Oligarchy.

In the year 1420, the formidable Khazarkar Empire commenced encroaching on the domain of the Gilraens. Compelled to safeguard their land, they sought the Gilraen Oligarchy's submission to vassalage. The swift Gilraen-Khazarkar War, lasting merely a month, resulted in Gilrean becoming a vassal state.

Under Khazarkar oversight and protection, Erchinor prospered and largely coexisted in harmony, though some viewed the proximity as too close for Khazarkar ideals of racial purity. The sole concession Erchinor had to make was abandoning their religion. The reluctance of some to forsake the Arcana led to banishment, imprisonment, or execution, spawning rebel elements that continue to wage an insurgency from the Salbâth Valley to this day. Known for their longstanding tradition of studying and worshiping the Goddess of the Arcane, some fled northward and descended into the Underdark, where they joined the Eldritch Concalve at Malardân.

Erchinor was the capital of Gilraen. On 14 Lunar 1830, prior to the Cinazan Front, a city of 45,000 inhabitants, Erchinor was sacked by the Flux Pact. Like the other cities ravaged by the 1st Horde of Chaos, the ruins of Erchinor have become a Chaos Ruin - streets that once ran straight are now twisted and end at the crumbled walls of buildings or pools of smoking, rainbow-colored ooze. Piles of rubble and even parts of buildings float at various heights over the area. Sporadic jets of fire erupt and vanish, storm clouds roll across the region with rain going in all directions, and air elementals dance about the ruins, spraying debris at anything that moves. The ruin is also a haven for numerous fell taints, and at night, bands of Grell emerge from the sewers emptying into Faeglor.
