Gathol is a hilly region situated in the southern reaches of Sorrow Pass. Undulating hills, almost idyllic in their appearance, are marred by the protrusion of aged war implements and scattered bones. These hills have witnessed numerous battles dating back to the God Era. The initial fortifications were constructed during the Demon Spawn War (89 GE - 269 GE). Throughout this prolonged conflict, Gathol was integral to a Covenant containment strategy, serving to impede the advance of Demogorgon's beast legions into the resource-rich lands of Grashakh.
In the Second Epoch, old ruins were rebuilt and new fortifications constructed in the area on the eastern side of the Foronir River. Erected by the Kingdom of Gimhak (1306 HE - 1479), these structures safeguarded the kingdom's far-flung southern holdings, centered on Strumpktar. When work commenced on the Sorrow Road, these defenses shielded workers, travelers, and enforced the collection of tolls.
In the Gimhak War (1470 - 1479), Gathol and its dwarven strongholds witnessed the march of undead legions and intense conflict. The only individuals spared were prisoners of significance, ransomed back to their families.
The fallen did not perish in vain. They swiftly arose once more, imbued with Thasmudyan's benediction, for a novel purpose - as soldiers of the Kambar-Ghul.

The eastern tracts of Gathol remain untamed, frequently traversed by raiders and slavers emerging from Agulbandal and Raefknar. By treaty, CelebriƤn, Surticon, and Yastorogg, the three dominant powers in the region, have designated this area a demilitarized zone where no party is permitted to establish settlements or defenses. Consequently, it is a lawless territory occupied by nomadic-like communities.
