The Knudmid are sand giants native to the world of Bal-Kriav, created by an Arch-Creationist named Storralk. In 5805 DE, they were sent to the Sands of Hell, where they served their creator as builders and workers. During the Creation War, which spanned from 1486 DE to 8777 DE, the Knudmid were tasked with harvesting Xorn Cysts on the primordial side. Though generally a goodly people, they were determined to find an escape from this arduous work. Their opportunity arose in the Morte'lumin War, which lasted from 6115 DE to 8066 DE, when primordial sand worms ran amok. Hundreds of Knudmid, masters at hiding in the sands, seized this chance and escaped into the wild, most of them never to be found again.

In the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , recruited by Bahamut, they served in the formidable Silt Fist Legion. When not engaging in combat against the demonic hordes of Orcus, the Knudmid constructed impressive fortifications like Bruh Gevul and many others, prepared for both times of peace and war. Following the conclusion of the conflict, Eydreid emerged as the Knudmid's first prominent settlement.

In 106 LE, the Knudmid established friendly relations with the Lith-Crillion who were encamped near the Pyramid of Anubis. Over the subsequent century, the Knudmid provided lucrative compensation and free training in the arcane arts, enabling them to coexist harmoniously with the Lith-Crillion, whom they revered. Some attribute this to the charisma of Ptah, a Lith-Crillion and Covenant hero who still walked among mortals. Over nine centuries, they constructed magnificent monuments and structures dedicated to Ptah and the Lith-Crillion, the greatest of which are said to be the six Pyramids of Power, considered the first temples to Ptah.

Beginning in the year 1000 LE, the Knudmid endured devastating locust infestations and a rapidly escalating population of primordial sand worms. With the Lith-Crillion, their so-called "gods", unwilling to alter the course of nature, the Knudmid's faith gradually diminished.

In 1011 LE, the Knudmid were afflicted by the Stone Curse. The malevolent magical affliction swiftly proliferated, transforming the majority of female Knudmid into stone within a single year. Only those females residing in remote regions adjacent to Alluvium Deep evaded the devastating curse.
