Hobgoblins are a product of the Gob'biyet Empire. When the leader of this empire, a goblin warlord named Maglubiyet, became a god, he was quick to violate the Mandate of the Heavens, purposely and willfully interfering in mortal affairs. His crime was giving forbidden relics to a Gob'biyet research station on Kriav. In a grim fortress, a training center for Maglubiyet's proselytizers, the first hobgoblins were created. Through elixirs, vats, and the dark arts, they made goblins bigger and stronger. Designed and trained for war, they were the elite of the Gob'biyet military; the best became crusaders of Maglubiyet's ideals, his Warriors of Darkness.
In the Horgon Era, nearly half a million hobgoblins departed Kriav. These formidable creatures posed a serious threat to Kriav's two great elven empires, Gwildath and Marchenir, prompting their relocation to another world. Though often at odds, these two empires shared the consensus that the hobgoblin population required management. Within the Gwildath territories, the hobgoblins were encouraged, at times through force, to cross over to a more suitable realm.
The hobgoblin migration from Kriav to the world Bal-Kriav occurred through feywild fuses. Arriving in the eastern regions of Gwaellurth, some hobgoblins pushed westward, founding Carororn on 7 Witchrite 571 HE. More hobgoblins followed, a steady stream leaving one world for another. This continued into the First Epoch, ending with the rise of Rúmil, the elven empire with bloodlines to Gwildath. Rúmil did not welcome the idea of their distant kin dumping their problems on lands Rúmil coveted. They waged war against the hobgoblins, razing the towns around the rifts, burning down slave markets, and eradicating hobgoblin influence from Gwaellurth to Malig. Gwaellurth's feywild fuses were permanently closed. Fifteen centuries of use had left a marked impact on Bal-Kriav, with hobgoblins fanning out across its surface and beneath.
Hobgoblins, a warlike race, are not a passive people. Rarely do their kind derive enjoyment from agricultural pursuits or literary activities, instead favoring occupations such as marching, hunting, and training. In the absence of enemies to confront in battle, their leadership commonly stages mock engagements that frequently escalate into genuine confrontations.
The formulation of these hobgoblins signifies an acknowledgment of his race's subordinance, substantiating that goblins are adherents, not commanders.
