Hades, the eldest progeny of Chronos and Rhea, emerged from a legendary tale in which Chronos consumed Hades and his eleven titan siblings. This was prompted by a premonition that they would overthrow him. Nevertheless, the sons and daughters managed to escape, and eventually Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon vanquished their father.
When the primordials began to mobilize for the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), Hades sought out Bruh Kreniik. He opposed the undoing of Creation, so he joined the side fighting to preserve it. Joining Kreniik's protection came with a price. As part of this safeguarding, Hades' Energy Composition was altered. This advanced procedure carried significant risks, and within a century, it purged Hades of all the entropic energy that had once permeated his being.
Hades joined a team of Lith-Crillion scientists, his assistance proving pivotal for the construction of the first voidship from a living organism. Alongside Anubis, Ptah, and Set, this breakthrough was achieved. After the successful flight tests of the Âni-Zandân, Bruh Kreniik elevated the four to 5th Rank Angels, dispatching them to lead Covenant armies against the Primordials.
Much of Hades's efforts in the Creation War focused on tending to the injured and securing proper resting places for the deceased. This was necessary due to the primordials' proclivity for necromancy, particularly the notorious Maen Grirngrim. Hades held a deep disdain for this entity, fearing its mastery of the necromantic arts and the power to resurrect angels as formidable undead beings.
Hades dedicated centuries to managing soul energy and caring for the deceased, so it was unsurprising when he assumed the Domain of Death. As a God of the Dead, he guides souls to the netherworld, where they are then conveyed to the Soul Gathering System befitting their disposition.
Undead are an abhorrence to Hades, a direct insult or defiance against his heavenly authority. He also opposes the use of Cairn Scythes.
The God of War, Ares, and Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, are often believed to collaborate, with Hades accepting the fallen from Ares' brutal conflicts. However, Hades' greatest adversary is Thasmudyan, the God of Undeath. The two deities diverge in their objectives, as Hades strives to grant eternal rest to souls, while Thasmudyan aims to return them to service in the form of the undead.
Priests of Hades seek the permanent rest of the dead, the destruction of Undead, and the obliteration of cults delving into undead practices. These tenets are diametrically opposed by those held by priests of Thasmudyan. Hades also opposes the use of resurrection, raise dead, reincarnation, and similar spells which seek to deprive him of subjects. For nearly a century, up until the Grim Harvest Crusade (1462 - 1464), he was a greater power. During this period, his divine power was such that restoring the soul to its corporeal form was restricted by nearly 40%. In the Grim Harvest Crusade, followers of Thasmudyan purged those of Hades. By war's end, Hades had lost so many followers that he was on the brink of becoming a Lesser Power.
When the Black Tide swept across the lands during the Black Tide War (1465 - 1486), assassins relentlessly hunted his worshipers throughout Brucrumus and into Karterus. For nearly a century, those who venerated Hades were either resolute or foolish, as thousands perished at the hands of Black Tide inquisitors. Consequently, the loss of numerous places of worship and tens of thousands of followers diminished his divine power, reducing him to a Lesser Power.
After the Artery War (1546 - 1554), with the Black Tide expelled from Brucrumus, worship of Hades was revived with renewed fervor. His devout followers emerged from their clandestine temples, initiating the Hades Renewal. Proselytizers were dispatched across the realm to disseminate the teachings of Hades and reclaim religious relics lost during the two wars against Thasmudyan's pawns.
