COA 411 is a Cube of Arcane measuring fifty miles on each side, pulsating with arcane energy. It is a battery of arcane energy for the world of Bal-Kriav.

Built concurrently with the world itself, COA 411 resides partially submerged within the Forbidden Sea. Its existence provokes a 1000-square-mile expanse of the sea to perpetually churn. It is often held accountable for rogue waves and the sporadic tidal surge, though worshippers of Poseidon would contest this assertion.

On the Isles of Jolmgar, there resides a society, which some might describe as a cult, dedicated to the study of Bal-Kriav's Cube of Arcane. These Cube Zealots are the preeminent authority on COA 411.

The dramatic changes in Ice Cap began after Cari'phis was cast into the Cube. Ares, then responsible for transporting this dangerous primordial to Denerra for eternal imprisonment, deviated from the plan. He considered Cari'phis unworthy, too treacherous to ever be utilized in future conflicts, so he dropped her into Bal-Kriav's Cube of Arcane. The dark blue ice, known as the Cap Shard, commenced its eastward advance only three centuries after Cari'phis met her supposed demise. I hypothesize that the beast remains alive, her remarkable regenerative abilities sustaining her, and that she poisons the icy reaches far to the west and even into the slopes of the Cube Shields.

The cerulean glacial flows and sapphire expanses of ice across Bal-Kriav's Ice Cap region are attributed to Bal-Kriav's Cube. Some posit this to be a flaw in the presumed impeccable design, or the consequence of those extracting the Cube's occult energy.

The Tazu Hidyal, or the Cube Zealots as they are scornfully known, have meticulously mapped the invisible lines of energy - the magical rivulets flowing westward from COA 411 into Ice Cap. These streams of arcane power are also present in the smoldering lands of Gludragh, a region scorched from below by intense magical heat. Both the chill of Ice Cap and this searing heat are, according to the Cube Zealots, a consequence of the magical emanations seeping from a damaged Cube.

In the Third Epoch, advanced voidships of the Orchish Empire began traversing COA 411, dispatching the condemned and prisoners into it. The reports of these "cube death sentences," or Cube Drops, suggest that the victim is engulfed in a burst of blue-white energy upon striking the Cube's glassy surface, followed by a faintly visible shockwave that reverberates upward from the point of impact, culminating in a harrowing shriek of agony from the victim.

In the year 1832, the Trauma Squad explored a subterranean complex beneath Imrik. Within the Geledh Labyrinth, they uncovered evidence that wizards of the Šukhan Legion had been experimenting on a Sphere of Arcane. They discovered that during the reign of the Volgads, wizards had utilized an artifact known as the Matter Penetrator, carving sections from COA 411.

  • After pushing it into the magma, the sphere began converting the lava into water.
  • The Matter Penetrator, a weapon forged during the Dawn Era, is the only item that we know of that can cut into a Cube of Arcane.
  • We have cut small parts out of the Sphere of Arcane. Even the smallest of these Globules of Arcane will make an area devoid of magic.
  • By way of an Orb of Arcane trapped in a null matrix, I have created a special rod to tap into the Web. Due to the instability of this item, I have temporarily contained it in a Time Stop Ward.
