Made to serve as a labor force for the primordials, earth giants were created early in the Dawn Era by Hettar. In the Creation War (1486 DE - 8777 DE), they held the rear areas of primordial domains and were often the source of considerable mischief, drunken debauchery, and mayhem. As the war progressed, they began to see more action at the front. When the war ended, they, like the other giants, were left behind. Those on Bal-Kriav who once served as war leaders or posed a particular threat to the designs of the Covenant were sent off to prison continents like Denerra.

In the year 6700 DE, civil unrest within the primordial bastion of Etteir led to the escape of nearly a thousand earth giants. Guided by Geb, they fled into the subterranean passages beneath the city. Legend recounts that he showed them the way to safety, taking up the rear guard where he entombed hundreds in the rock and petrified dozens of others with twin pick-axes forged from the blood of the first medusa. Aboard strange craft, they followed one of Geb's newly made Earth Seams, ending up thousands of miles east in Faeglor. Sensing the ancient power of Izen'nâth, the birthplace of Geb, they established a home there.

In the Demon Spawn War ( 89 GE - 269 GE ) , earth giants valiantly defended Izen'nâth against the demonic invasion led by Zuggtmoy. Those captured by this malevolent demon lord endured a harrowing transformation due to prolonged exposure to deep rocks. The survivors of this ordeal became known as the Fomorian.

During the Lith-Crillion Era, more earth giants fled the unrest of Etteir. They traversed three seas aboard Grimsuvelth Trawlers, ultimately settling in the coastal hills of Gorahrigir. They splintered along tribal allegiances, making modest advancements in civilization until the rise of the Zeymah'kein Empire ( 600 HE - 1600 HE ) .
